Skill Level
- •Who it's for: Advanced
- •Why: Full exposure to open ocean swells, powerful sets, rocky reef, and a long paddle out demand advanced ocean skills.
Hazards
- •Very exposed to open ocean swell, sets can arrive unexpectedly large
- •Long paddle out from the shore
- •Rocky reef with strong surge
- •Cold water (13–15°C in winter)
Local Tips
- •Indicators only really fires when the swell is pumping, check the surf report carefully before the long paddle.
- •On a big SW swell all three Raglan sections can link for a ride that stretches over a kilometre, a once-in-a-season experience.
