  • Why: The reef is ferociously shallow, the current strong, and the wipeouts brutal, it's the Holy Grail for a reason.

Hazards

  • Razor-sharp reef inches below the surface
  • Strong, unpredictable current
  • Remote location, long drive or boat ride on rough roads
  • Violent wipeouts with little water cushioning

Local Tips

  • A low tide session on an incoming tide is the best balance of barrel quality and safety margin.
  • Bring a quiver: a step-up for big days and a faster board for when it's smaller and more playful.
