Shape

Punchy, sometimes hollow beach break, steeper and more powerful than many south coast breaks due to the NW swell exposure

Length

30–80m

Skill Level

  • Who it's for: Intermediate
  • Why: The beach break is genuinely powerful, Croyde produces heavier, more hollow waves than most UK beach breaks on solid swells.

Hazards

  • Strong rip currents (lifeguards patrol in summer)
  • Cold water (11–15°C)
  • Heavy crowds in summer
  • Narrow village streets create parking chaos on good swell days

Local Tips

  • Croyde village is beautiful, thatched cottages, excellent pubs, and a genuinely warm Devon surf culture.
  • Saunton Sands (3km south) is better for beginners; Croyde is for those wanting real Atlantic punch.
