Skill Level

  • Who it's for: Expert
  • Why: Shallow coral reef, powerful barrels, and the remoteness of the location make this a serious wave requiring elite ability and safety planning.

Hazards

  • Extremely shallow coral reef, reef rash and coral cuts are common
  • Boat access only, no swimming from shore
  • Remote location, medical evacuation by boat takes time
  • Intense crowds during contest season

Local Tips

  • Access is via boat from Namotu or Tavarua Island resorts, public access through local operators is available.
  • Mid-tide is the sweet spot: low tide exposes the reef dangerously, high tide reduces the wave's hollow character.
