Skill Level

  • Who it's for: Intermediate
  • Why: The waves are fun and the bottom sandy, but rips and heavier swells require genuine swimming and surfing ability.

Hazards

  • Rips, Bondi's rips are famous; always surf between the flags and know how to escape one
  • Very crowded, one of the world's busiest beaches
  • Strong shore break on larger SE swells

Local Tips

  • The south end of the beach (near the rocks) tends to hold a better sandbar and is slightly less chaotic.
  • Bondi Icebergs ocean pool at the south end is worth a post-surf swim, one of Australia's great salt-water pools.
