  • Why: The barrel is fast and the reef is shallow, hesitation on the drop usually ends badly.

Hazards

  • Shallow reef on the inside
  • Sea urchins on the cliff-side rocks
  • Cliff scramble for entry/exit
  • Can be very crowded given its photogenic reputation

Local Tips

  • Access is via a steep cliff staircase, wear reef booties for the walk across the reef.
  • The best barrel section is on the inside; paddle wide to avoid the crowd and pick off the sets.
