  • Why: Access is by boat, the wave is enormous and violent, and the sheer cliff face looms behind the entire lineup.

  • Boat-access only, no swimming from the clifftops
  • Extremely cold water (9–12°C in winter)
  • Unpredictable Atlantic storm conditions

Local Tips

  • The view from the Cliffs of Moher tourist path directly above the break is extraordinary, Aileen's can be watched safely from the cliff edge on big days.
  • Surfers access via Doolin Pier in small RIB boats, the ride out is as exhilarating as the surfing.
